Ghostshadow and Lionpaw crept stealthly through the undergrowth, scenting the air.
Lionpaw dropped low, waggled his haunches, and pounced on a mouse. He killed it quickly and buried it at the base of a tree.
Ghostshadow nodded approvingly, then said, "Watch this." He stalked around until he came into a clearing, Lionpaw following. The dark tom crouched and spotted a rabbit. He waited patiently, then a hawk dropped from the sky and grabbed the rabbit. Ghostshadow sprang at the hawk, clamping his jaws around its neck and snapping it. The hawk fell to the ground, paralyzed. The hunter bit its throat, killing it instantly. "Now lets go this load to camp."
*Thunderstorm and Lightningpaw enter, seeing Ghostshadow and Lionpaw, hunt so cleverly. Lightning paw copies, only with a sparrow, eating a nut. Thunderstorm purrs at how silly her apprentice looked when he realized it wasn't prey in the sparrow's beak, but a beechnut.*
*She and Lightningpaw pad over, and silently wait for a hawk to swoop in for the chipmunk they had left, doing it as Rainstar showed them. A screech fills the air, and a hawk swoops in. She nods to Lightningpaw, who dashes over, and swiftly kills the hawk.*
Rainstar slipped inside with Snowpaw padding quietly after her. Snowpaw froze in her tracks as she saw Lightningpaw, but she shrugged it off and trailed after her mentor.
Snowpaw smiled to herself, then pricked her ears at the sound of leaves crackling. She looked towards the source, then dropped into a crouch. She waggled her haunches, just as her brother Lionpaw did, then swiftly pounced and killed the vole. "Good job, Snow." purred Rainstar, nudging her apprentice affectionately.
Lightningpaw pads over and greets her, hoping she can't tell he's thinking about her and him and kits. He smiles warmly at Snowpaw, then bows his head at Rainstar.
Digging a quick hole in the ground, Snowpaw dropped her prey inside and buried it quickly. She whispered something to Rainstar, then they both looked at Lightningpaw. Rainstar nodded and licked Snowpaw's ear. Snowpaw returned the gesture and disappeared through a hazel bush. With the slightest flick of her long white tail, she beckoned Lightningpaw to follow.
Rainstar nodded kindly at Thunderstorm, for her deputy was actually older than her. She sniffed the air, then turned her attention to the sky where an eagle flew above them. Rainstar nodded respectfully to the passing predator, watching it fly away with longing.
Snowpaw listened to Lightningpaw behind her, her paw-steps light and graceful. The beautiful white she-cat emerged into a small clearing with a stream moving slowly at one side. They were surrounded by hazel bushes, oak trees towering above them. Snowpaw sighed happily, sitting at the water's edge to watch its beauty. (I think I might make Snowpaw have some sort of special power or two, maybe three if Lightningpaw doesn't completely freak out)
Rainstar sighed up at the sky, standing experimentally on her hind paws. She toppled over backwards into a pile of leaves, laughing and purring like a kit.
Snowpaw breathed out as she felt Lightningpaw press against her, resisting the urge to run away yowling in terror and excitement. Instead, she relaxed against him and purred. The water flowed slow and steady in front of them, and Snowpaw could of swore she heard voices (and the freak-show begins). She squinted her eyes, trying to see what it was. Biting back a gasp of suprise, Snowpaw looked at the cats ane saw swimming under the water's surface. They were looking back at her, just looking.
Snowpaw barely heard or felt Lightingpaw. She was watching the Water Cats, hypnotized. The white apprentice tilted her head, then one of the Cats stepped out of the stream. It dipped its head respectfully to her, water dripping off its ghostly form. "I am Rush." she said simply, scattering droplets as she shook her fur. Snowpaw suddenly snapped back, and Rush was gone. "Wha'?" she asked stupidly, then fell clumsily over and laid unconsious in the grass.
Snowpaw purred at Lightningpaw, putting her head under his and licking his chin lovingly. She did have feelings for her follow apprentice, couldn't hide it.
